Lifetime Volunteer Award for Carl Ryan
25 May by Megan Ebdon
A truly special and well deserved recognition for a true Monty great — congratulations to Carl on receiving a Lifetime Volunteer Award at the Banyule Volunteer Awards Night.
The Banyule Volunteer Awards celebrate individuals who have made an extraordinary contribution to their organisation, local community and the lives of those around them.
Anyone who knows Carl knows just how deserving he is of this honour.
Carl joined GMBC in 1967 and has devoted an incredible part of his life to this club ever since. Awarded Life Membership in 1987, his contribution across generations of Monty players, families and volunteers has helped shape the club we know and love today.
From 1971 through to 2023, Carl served tirelessly on the committee in countless roles including:
⚾ Treasurer
⚾ Junior Vice President
⚾ Senior Vice President
⚾ League Delegate
⚾ Social Event Co-Ordinator
⚾ Junior Coach
⚾ Senior Coach
Carl was also a founding member of the Orioles Coterie Group in 2006, helping create the Thursday night meals and club culture that has brought players and families together for years.
But Carl’s impact goes far beyond titles and roles.
For decades, Carl has been one of the familiar faces around the club — the person who quietly gets things done, supports others without hesitation and gives his time simply because he loves Monty Baseball Club and its people.
Generations of players have benefited from his guidance, kindness, humour and commitment to making the club a welcoming place for everyone.
Volunteers like Carl are the heart and soul of community sport. Clubs survive and thrive because of people willing to give so much of themselves for others, and Carl has done exactly that for nearly 60 years.
On behalf of everyone at GMBC — thank you Carl. Your dedication, loyalty and love for this club means more than words can say.
Congratulations on this incredible recognition 🖤🤍⚾
