U15 match report - rd 8
23 Jun 2014 by Andrew MacRae
Round 8 - GMBC/Greensborough Eagles v Essendon.
Back where we started – all teams have played each other once and after the 1st round
Essendon is on top and we are equal second. The first game was a cliff hanger with
Essendon winning 5-4.
Since then the team has gone through several changes. The Greensborough boys
are well and truly on board and we have made several changes with the Orioles and
recruited Leah. All are working well as a team, full of confidence and we were looking
forward to the re match.
It was Essendon again who got the better of us and won 11-4.
We had problems hitting their starting pitcher who was well supported by the fielders.
It wasn’t total doom and gloom; they scored 7 runs in one innings which was the
difference. We can learn from this and hopefully have another crack at them come finals.
We had your own highlights and most of them were in the field.
Fielding
Matt Watson took a nice catch in centre field, Clare at 2nd and Matt Stephens at 1st.
A highlight was Rambo throwing from behind the plate to Jack at third who made the tag
as an Essendon player, under full speed, attempted stealing a base. It was a great play
that closed the innings. Unfortunately Jack was not able to continue. After seeing the
medical staff he was diagnosed with muscle pain. Last heard he was resting in bed with a
heat pack. Take it easy mate and hope to see you next week.
Batting
In the box Rambo continued his purple patch and continues to hit. The baseball must
be looking like a soccer ball at present. Others to put bat on ball were Mitch Heywood,
James and Mitch Ramsey.
In the 2nd innings Leah was struck out. Whilst near the dugout Shannon D’Avoine gave
her some timely hints and next at bat she was as ready. In comes the ball and Leah makes
good contact. Unfortunately the ball goes foul, but the smile on Leah’s face was priceless
and makes baseball what it should be - "fun".
Looking forward to more action in the coming weeks.
Don’t forget to complete your homework and see you all next week.
